I visited Can Tho, Vietnam, back in 2009 during the Vietnamese New Year known as Tet.  Can Tho reminds me of pre-WTO Saigon back in 2009.  Motoribike traffic was not bad and the streets were clean.  The people were friendly and kind.  I enjoyed “walking” on the sidewalks unheard of in Saigon.

In late 1999, I was Program Recruiter for ACCELS/ACTR in Kyrgyzstan for 4 months.  During this short time, I was able to journey to the majority of the towns and cities by car.  One of those small cities was called Naryn where the Naryn River, one of the head rives for the Syr Darya, flows.  It is a beautiful city with a picturesque mountains scenes.  I took many of the photos from the top of a minaret at the local mosque with the help of some young boys.

Alanya, Turkey, is one of the most beautiful Turkish cities in Turkey. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, Alanya is an important tourist city for Germans, roughly 5000 of them, who call Alanya their summer home. For me, though, the beauty of Alanya is its history. Alanya is an ancient Seljuk city. Not far from the city is an ancient Seljuk mosque surrounded by castle walls. I got some great shots of Alanya from atop the minaret of the mosque. Alanya also has some great fruit orchards with the best tasting oranges I ever tasted.

Below are photos I took from my trip to Alanya back in January, 2002.  I remember my friends who paid for my air ticket and entire stay in Alanya.

The last time I ever visited Sasebo, Japan, was in May, 2002, with my Japanese mother.  It was a memorable trip but I really had not begun to respect my Japanese heritage at this time.  Nearly 8 years later, things have changed,  I am now starting to understand the true calling of my Japanese blood.

My life was conceived in Sasebo, it is the place of my motherland…

My home from August, 1997, until June, 1999, where I served as a Peace Corps Voluteer teaching English and computers.

Karatau was the only place where I could sleep 8-10 hours each night.

I miss my Kazakh host family, the Orazimbetovs.

I miss my host mother’s beshbarmaq.

Thank you Karatau for leading me to the starting point of my destiny…
